ABOUT BEX
The obvious Stuff

I’m Bex and I’m obsessed with colour!
I’m fun and energetic but also pensive and love to chill at home. I have FAR too many hobbies and I often go through phases of what interests me at the time. My most enduring interests are photography, reading, food and writing.
I live in the Sussex countryside with my husband and boy/girl twins. I love our home and adding as much colour as Nik lets me get away with! 😉
I’m a part-time dentist and an award-winning professional photographer specialising in brand photography.
I first started blogging back in 2010 with my lifestyle blog, Olive Dragonfly. It started off being all about wedding planning and then expanded to everything I love – fashion, food, travel…
I documented our very raw IVF journey and when the twins came along, the blog limped along for a while before I switched my energies to my photography business. BUT, I missed it and so I’m back with Bex In Colour to scratch the writing itch.
I hope you enjoy reading!
How it all Began
As long as I can remember, I’ve enjoyed taking photographs. Back in the 80s I had an old pocket film camera I took everywhere.
But, I really caught the photography bug during my round the world trip as a student back in 2004, that experience of travelling solo, making friends out of strangers and exploring amazing places is something that will never leave me.
I went swimming with humpback whales in Tonga, bungee jumping in Cairns, skydiving in New Zealand, worked with the Royal Flying Doctor Service in the Australian outback, earned my first PADI qualification on the Great Barrier Reef and learned to surf at Byron Bay. I have such fond memories of that amazing trip and the fun photos to match!
The following summer, I was given my first DSLR as a graduation present and soon developed a love of landscape & nature, travel and underwater photography, selling my prints at craft fairs in Scotland.

I was never interested in photographing people until I had my own little ones in 2014. After suffering heartache throughout our seemingly hopeless IVF treatment, I wanted to document everything when our twins beat the odds, I love having our everyday moments on display in our home!
Since early 2021, when I took a business and branding course, I’ve decided to focus on branding photography as this is where I really shine! I love seeing the transformations in my brand clients and I know I’m pretty good at it. (I’m actually bloody awesome at it but it’s so cringey saying this stuff about yourself right?!)
I’ve since upgraded to a Sony mirrorless hybrid α7 IV, my new baby!
My Photography Style
My skills have evolved a lot over the years, from my beginnings as a landscape & nature photographer in Scotland to photographing families and brands here in East Sussex. But my style has remained the same with a colourful vibe (although I do love a good black & white edit too!) and rich tones.
Since 2021, I’ve specialised in branding photography, providing my clients with a complete visual brand solution to makeover their online presence.
I’m known for my vibrant editing style with a rich, impactful look. I love contrast and dramatic lighting and am always playing with food photography.
I completed my first “365 project” in 2020 with a photo every day.
I love learning new techniques and ways to improve my services. I attended the big Click Away photography conference in Chicago in 2022 and I’m now a guest speaker myself at business events and conferences.

The Interesting Bits

Family Life
We’re an adventurous bunch and love to have fun at local family-friendly festivals and events. (Although we do also love a cosy Sunday snuggled up with a film!)
I really struggled with loneliness and post-natal depression when we moved here. I’ve started a few charity projects as a result, including donating a family session to a fellow PND sufferer and my Hello Yellow fundraiser in 2019 for Young Minds, a mental health charity. I’m also a volunteer for the Gold Hope Project, donating family sessions to paediatric cancer patients.
I just wanted to share some of my personal favourite photos here too 😉
