It’s been a while since I shared some of my favourite reads. You can follow along on Goodreads, but here are a few top-rated books I’ve read in the last year or so…
Apparently I read a lot of books about maids! All quite different and all excellent!

Maid – 5 stars
Maid is a true story which is really more of a memoir. An amazing account of one woman’s own experiences and struggles before she became a writer and thank goodness she did, it’s so well written and compelling. Highly recommend!
I have also watched the Netflix adaptation which was great, slightly different as always but worth watching. (Still prefer the book as usual!)

The Maid – 4 stars
A story about a hotel maid which didn’t go the way I expected – loved the twists and turns and the characters.

The Housemaid – 5 stars
Loved this! A great twist at the end which I didn’t see coming until pretty close to the reveal. Excited to read the next one and watch the movie which is coming soon!

The Wild Robot – 5 stars
A beautiful book! I adored this from beginning to end! My kids read it first and I’m so glad I joined in the fun.
Excited to see the movie soon!
I read this next one because I wanted to watch the Netflix movie. I prefer to read the book first as I almost always prefer the book and it wouldn’t be the same the other way around! I’ve actually started adding lots of books to my “to read” list from Netflix movies!

The Life List – 4 stars
Really enjoyed this read, so much so it was one that kept me up until 3am to finish it! I did predict the ending which always makes me feel clever, even if it’s fairly obvious 😉
It was a lovely story about relationships and reflecting on life.

You Know The Drill – 5 stars
A brilliant read and one I’d love to recommend to all of my patients! You Know The Drill is reminiscent of This Is Going To Hurt by Adam Kay which I also loved.
Similarly humorous, it’s a realistic memoir of life as a dentist, detailing many of the trials, tribulations and stories we all encounter in and out of the surgery!
I laughed, I cried and I kept thinking – yes me too!

The Stolen Child – 5 stars
A fab mystery with a good twist.

Dark Matter – 5 stars
If I describe this book it will sound dull and confusing, it’s physics based and does take some thinking but OMG, I loved it! A thriller with a scientific and philosophical twist, it’s a really interesting read that had me hooked.

Thursday Murder Club – 5 stars
I’m obviously late to the party with this series but wanted to read it before the movie came out. It’s so funny and a proper cosy crime novel with fun characters. Loved it and the movie was OK but I wasn’t keen on the changes.

Tell Me How This Ends – 5 stars
Another beautiful read, a story about friendship, companionship and a bit of mystery for good measure. This gave me a good cry but with an overall warmth that I enjoyed.
I have a few lined up that I’m desperate to read before watching the Netflix movies so watch this space for more quick reviews of The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving, My Oxford Year and Wonder.
Have you read any of the above? Will you be adding any to your list?
